The Prisoner: Speculative Poetry: modern, fantastic, and science-fictional

This is a short book of speculative poetry. It consists of thirteen poems. Most of them with elements of fantasy and two of science fiction.
The book includes two contemporary fables ‘Carol of the Wings’ and ‘Fable of the Bentley and the Hoodie.’ Not only is the first one unique in its structure but also enchanting with such a sentimental sad love story, the language, and irony. The latter was first published in BFS Horizons#10, Dec 2019. It tells a mysterious story happening in Mayfair, London.
The title of the long storytelling poem ‘The Prisoner’ gave the name to the book itself. It is a gripping contemporary Halloween love story balancing on the edge of good and evil, betrayal and love. Interestingly enough, the cover photograph matches the story ideally, for it was described by the artist as a spooky building at night. It is “Prince Castle”- located in Merano, Italy. ‘Story of Beacon’ takes you to the rough sea, while a fascinating ‘Off the Record’ admires everyone with its celestial heartbreaking romance of the Sun and the Moon.
Finally, The Real McCoy Deer Christmas adventure story takes you to a snowy forest. Tracing Santa’s reindeer, the story is so amusing with its unexpected twist.
Surprisingly, the book goes smoothly from sadness to joy, from darkness to light, and from misery to glory.
Recommended to fans of fantasy and science fiction, and to everyone interested in discovering how uncanny and captivating rhyming storytelling can be.
